MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Part Exchange?

Hi

I don't know if anyone can help me with this.... I am currently the owner of a pretty much 'A1' 1971 MGB GT and I am looking to purchase an MGZS 180. Rather than attempt to sell the B privately (especially at this time of year) I am looking for somewhere that might offer me a reasonable part exchange deal. I have been advised that most Rover dealers will not offer me a deal on a car of this age. Can anyone help?

I would not expect you to get any joy from an MG/Rover dealer on this. Anyway there is not the problem with a GT that you have with a Roadster on seasonal pricing...

Speak to Chris Banton at Trident Garages, Ottershaw, Surrey and I'm sure he will do you a good deal.
Tel. 01932 874411
They have had several RV8's in the past plus other old classic cars - so Im sure taking a BGT in part ex would not cause them a problem. Chris owns several older MG's himself so has a good appreciation of the older MG's as well as the new.

The location description of UK has a certain lack of precision about it!

However if you are in the 70% of the residents of this country that live in the SE then you could try G Kingsbury of Hampton. I know they took a BGT in part exchange for an F in 2000 and were proudly showing the GT to anyone who was interested (including me!).

Having had conversations with both dealers and owners on this very subject several times recently the main problem is that there is usually a wide gulf between the perceived value of the car by the owner and the offered value by a dealer.

The dealer essentially often doesn't want or need the complication of a classic car, other than at the moment there is some attraction to have a clasic MG in the showroom if there is sufficent space with the expanding MG Rover product range. Therefore the classic car is simply not worth anywhere near as much to a dealer, hence the much lower offers.
