MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Prices for Z cars revealed
I don't know how long this has been live, but I got bored during lunch and noticed that the http://www.mgcars.co.uk has been updated and if you go to the MG Saloons section, & "build your own MG", you can see what prices they start at. ZR: 9,995.00 (Wow!) ZS: 12,495.00 ZT: 18,595.00 ZTT: [No prices yet] Ok, the 10K ZR is for the 1.4 version, but still not bad for 10K. Steve. |

When are they going to release prices for the ZT V8? |
dan |
That's not on the site yet :( - I expect mid to high £ 20,000s. They sure are cheaper than I thought they would be. Steve. |
Steve Childs |
Instead of 'cheap', let us say 'less expensive'. |

Wow! I was expecting even the basic ZT to be near 30,000 pounds. Is that price including the 17.5 percent VAT? If they export them to the US in the next few years, perhaps I can even afford one. |

Paul, 'On the Road' pricing in the UK means including 17.5 per cent VAT, delivery (destination)charges, license plates, 12 months annual road tax (circa 150 GBP) and first registration fee of 25 GBP. For a US price on the ZT I guess the aim would be circa 30000 USD, similar to the base X-type Jag, assuming a bottom of the range car was imported, and probably 50k+ if you got the 380hp rear wheel drive version, JD |

I realize that it isn't accurate to simply figure the exchange rate, when making comparisons of this kind, but... Subtracting the VAT from the 18,595 price of the basic ZT, gives 15,825 pounds for the car itself. The exchange rate between USD and GBP these days is about 1.5 USD = 1.0 GBP, so 15,825 GBP = $23,738. Using this as a starting point, I would agree that a basic ZT would probably sell in the upper $20,000's, probably around $30,000. Still, that's not too bad. With leasing being so popular, you could probably lease one for $300-350 per month. |

All I can add is I want one - a ZT-T please Santa, and I promise to be a good boy ... for a very long time! |

Dont forget the 10% car tax appplied before the VAT (vat chargeable on the 1-% car tax as well) |

I think you will find that the 'car tax' was abolished a few years back! VAT @ 17.5% still applies though! Ted |

Hmmmm....The ST200 Estate is up for renewal In Feb. When you think about it - It's not THAT far away Sounds like the ZT-T isn't going to be any more expensive, and may even turn out to be MORE cost effective. Kieren |

Paul and all, At MG2001, most of the respondents to surveys indicated that the MGZT should cost (or rather, that they EXPECTED it to cost) about $30-$40k US, competing with 60 and 80 series Volvos, E-class Benzes, Audis, etc... I'd say if MG Rover can get the first two versions of the ZT here to retail for ANYTHING under $30k - and it would seem that they should be able to - the line forms behind me. At anything close to $25k, they'll be adding shifts at Longbridge. How much would we have to pay some wag at the factory to put "Nuffield Exports" stickers on the windscreens!? Cheers, Tom |
