MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Should I buy an ZS?

I'm thinking about trading in my MGF for a new MG ZS 180.

But at this present time I don't know a great deal about the ZS.

What are your views on it and would it be a good move for me to swap my MGF?

Thanks
Richard

Take it for a test drive. That's the best advice I can give you. I can't tell you what the best car is for you. For me the ZS is a great drive, superb drive with great grip, the tradeoff is high fuel consumption with increased road noise. I'm happy with that tradeoff, the ZS 120 goes some way to reduce that with smaller engine and alloy wheel size, but drive the V6 version if you get the chance. Some people have commented that the interior is dated, but I don't think there is much wrong with it... I still look forward to driving mine every day.

I have 180 and am more than pleased with it.
Whilst in for repair I had MGF for couple of days, personally I found the F to be a little less responsive. High fuel costs? depends, you only get out what you put in!
Go on give it a test.

Ric, I tested a 180 for 5 days and ordered one the minute it went back, absolutely awsome pulling power, grip, handling and a real head turner! (if youre in to that). Yes it did eat a bit of fuel but the cost is negleagable against the quality of drive you get back!. I would say the interior is slightly dated but what would you expect for £16.5k!!!!!

PS I also tested a 120.. OK?, but for £1k more I would, and without questiion, choose a 180.

The 180 is a very good drive compared to the F but as everyone says fuel is the killer I regularly average 26 MPG.

With regards cost £16.5K, there are much better deals out there, If you're not already join the MGOC and get access to Rover employee discount. I recently bought a 180 with space saver spare, pearl paint for £13.5K via employee discount thro' my bro' in law.

Go for it

I Looked around and got a 180 for under 13k, and that was before the scheme by the clubs was announced!

You wont regret owning a a ZS180!

I owned a MGF VVC previous to my ZS180. I would say the advantages of the F were that you can take the roof off and that it is a "real" sports car. Everything else is in favour of the ZS180. Fantastic performance (specially mid range acceleration), superb handling, much bigger grin factor even than the F.

Bye one. As a matter of interest, a lot of people seem to overlook the fact that the 5 door version is significantly cheaper than the 4 door and looks every bit as good.

I have an F for my commuting and we've just ordered a ZS120 as a family car. I love the F, but can't help feeling that the suspension on the ZS is even better, though I hate to admit it

The 120 and the 180 both seem fabbo value for money, especially if you import, but I didn't really think we could justify the fuel consumption of the 180.

Excellent, thanks for all your responses.
I'm not bothered about the MPG as I really only drive the car at weekends.

I do love my F, but thinking of starting a family so the F is going to have to go but I certainly don't want to loose the grin I have everytime I drive it so think I'll certainly give the 180 a test drive.

Plus, looking at imports, I can get a fully loaded 180 for the same price as a standard one in this country.

I have read a lot of reviews lately and they all seem to say good things, except the interior is a little dated.

I'd also probably get a 5 door as I think they tend to be a little more practical but will look at both before deciding.

You'd be surprised. I find it much easier to get all my daughter's paraphernalia into my 4-door 180 than in the 5-door Honda Civic (same shape as the 45/ZS) that I traded in. The 4-door boot is significantly longer than that in the 5-door. What I did when test driving new cars was to take along a suitcase and pushchair to see how well they fitted in. I wanted the ZS180 anyway but, once I saw how easily they fitted in the boot, I knew it had to be mine!

Yeah the 4-door boot is huge - well hugely long anyway.

ZS 4door = 470 l

ZS 5door = 375 l

ZT = 432 l

ZTT = 1222 l (i.e. can get an entire horse in this one)
