MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Snow chains on ZT
Has anyone had experience of using snow chains on a ZT ? Mike |

No but I have seen a lot of cars here in Sweden with snow tyres. Often studded heavily treaded winter tyres. In Gothenburg the studs dont last too long maybe 5000 kms! they also restrict handling under normal driving conditions. Chains are a nightmar and may be legally limited to 25 mph or something. Chains are never seen around here they are only useable in the heaviest and softest of new snow. It is a legal requirement for all cars to have Snow/winter tyres fitted by November 1st. most people own 2 sets of tyres/wheels I wouldnt recommend snow chains unless the weather gets antartic! and deeper than about 2 inches. Heavy duty tyres are the best option if you are worried |

Neil, I'm only doing a trip to CH for xmas/new year, snow chains are a requirement to be carried and fitted when necessary on certain roads in the Alpine region, Spikes AFAIK have been outlawed in many countries, as they eat up the road surface, as you must know, I've been in Stockholm on dry winter days where the dust on the roads is incredible, as well as the ruts caused by the spiked tyres. Regards Mike. |

yeah the studs are very heavy on the roads that's for sure have a nice time in the Alps |

Have hired them for my winter trip to the alps. No direct experience, but one of the bods in the shop has used them on his ZTT and reassured me that they were easy to use... but also that he's only used chains once in the last 5 years. What info are you after Mike? P. |
