MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - The doors

had my ZR for 9 days now. I have noticed that both the drivers and passengers doors do not fit as smoothly as they should. They stick out at the back of the doors around 2mm.. is this a common problem... will this go after time or is it back to the dealership for me?

also.. loud wind noise when driving at speed. again. is this caused by doors not fitting correctly?

I have a similar problem with the O/S rear door on my ZS. Dealer has tried adjusting. Result - much worse, dealer may need to replace the door as it's actually very slightly out of shape !!
As you suggest, wind noise is probably caused by the door fitting badly.

I'd pay a visit to the dealer.

Had a very similar prblem on my F when I got it (second hand). Don't know about the ZR, but it was just a case of loosening and moving the position of the catch, rather than nything tricksy with the door itself.

from what i've seen on the boards the wind noise (mines the same on drivers door) seems to be from the wing mirror?

Thought so, the front wing mirror does seem to create alot of wind noise when going above 40 / 50 mph.
there is also a whistling noise from the passenger side door. Initial thought was something rubbing, it again only does it above 30 / 40 mph, think that one could be caused by a bad door fitting.

david...I suggest you note down all your concerns, take a trip to your dealer and get someone to come out to the car and point everything out to them. If they're committed to customer service, this shouldn't be a problem for them. I did this with my Zed yesterday and proved very helpful.

was gonna go last night, but the car took me out away from town into the countryside for some driving experiences!!!

will make a note of all minor probs. now!

Did your 'trip' do the job then?
Findlay

Yeah - any news on your 'visit'?

Reference wind noise on ZR and ZS, the Rover 200/400 (95 onwards)had a quality problem on the electric window winder motor, the bolts would work loose and the window would drop into the door, not pleasant at motorway speeds. My 420, my wife's 214 and a friend's 416 have all suffered within 20k miles. The trouble is that in working loose, it damages the window rubber (esp. on 200)and causes wind noise, I am still waiting for a new window rubber for the 214 after six weeks, but having previously waited 9 weeks for new door locks (don't ask)I don't expect much joy here. I trust MGR have sorted this by now as it is a simple cure, use threadlock.
I have ordered a ZT+ due in a few weeks, so after 18 months of 1.8 Rover 75 sedate pipe & slippers driving, I am looking forward to living a little again! 75 has been a reliable car, excellent build quality, so hope this bodes well for MGR in the future.
