MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - Would you like a Proton to go with that LOTUS SIR?

Posted 22 July 2002 at 19:11:01 UK time
You couldn't make it up! THis all goes back to a wrong choise that Proton made about 2 years ago. At that time we where forced to pay BIG money for a fast car. The Hot Hatch had been layed low by Fag Labour.

But out of no where, the Proton GTI appeared! I test drove it and i was shocked by how good it was! The suspension was pure LOTUS. EVery Hot Hatch either has very hard suspension or lift off oversteer or both!

Lotus had got a car with all the feel of almost a track car, yet it rode like a Rolls! Great job only one problem.

The Engine! It could not pull the skin off a rice pudding! I know a lad who has one and he loves it, but amits that it would lose most "Firefights" because of its lack of pace!

I and many others wrote to Proton, we explained how if only give it a good motor they could become the "Hatch". Real street cred. For a while it looked like they would surply a Supercharger kit via "Force one".

Nothing happened, everyone lossed interst and Proton missed an open goal!

Now they want the "Street cred", only by getting their "Fag moblies" to shack up with Lotus. A VERY sad day, which ever spin you put on it!

WillLOtus EVER build a proper car again? A REAL BRitish Boxster?
I think not.
Mega.

MEGA, what the FCUK has this to do with MG Z Saloons? You polute the MG Car thread with drivel also!! If we have to put up with you then plaese keep to relevant topics!
Kelvin

'choise' 'surply' 'lossed' ' moblies' WillLOtus?

Come on Mega, if you do insist of being a complete prick by posting irrelevant topics on this BBS, the least you can do is spell. But then again I guess that would take some degree of neurological activity wouldn't it?

I keep looking at the title of this thread and cannot make any connection with Zed saloons.

Could people keep to the topic and post in the appropriate place.

While your about can you explain to me why my ZS180 is as quick as a CTR? and yes the driver was trying.
I think the CTR's lack of torque is a real handicap in real world situations on the road.
exactly how hard is it to keep it in its powerband?

Hi Peter
You will find that CTR are very mileage sence a tif! My own has only done 1800 miles and is still a bit tight. On saturday night i went for a speed check down the M58 i could do no better than an indicated 138 MPH.

One of the guys from the Honda Forum tells me that his went a lot faster + 5,000 miles.
I brought my 306 GTI-6 with 12,679 miles on the clock. Sold it with 36,789 on it and it was a lot faster than it was when i got it.

The other thing that you notice is that the real end is VERY loose when new. Only after i had put 1500 miles on did it start to work.

I thought this was just mine, but Roger Parker tells me he saw the same thing happening to one he was watching on his way home one night.
