MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR 160 Road Test in Auto Journal

First "foreign" road test in the usually well-balanced autojournal.com

GOOD:Performance,exterior,value for money
NOT SO GOOD:Interior, comfort, transfer of power through wheels in the wet & on rough surfaces(especially as no electronic supports for active safety included)

I wonder if the 120 version might be better on the last mentioned items?
Anyone like to comment?
andrew

Autocar didn't like it, CAR did. You pays your money......
Mega

Mega, that's precisely the type of reaction we DON'T want from the Motoring magazines. Its not a case of like it or not,but giving us the strong &weak points and letting US decide!
andrew

almost spot on except for the interior :-(
i think the interior is modern and practical - shelf if you dont have a pass airbag, not many cars have this - the center console looks a bit naff, should have been given the alloy look i think.
for a sports hatch i find mine quite comfy - even the seats which everyone hates.
in the wet i can spin the wheels in at least the first 3 gears until i lift off - not tried in 4th yet.
in the dry though its a different feel altogether - superb handling with plenty of feedback.

Hi Rob
I take it the engine has now "Bed in" for you?
Mega

Have to agree with Rob, had my ZR 160 for nearly a month now, love it!!!

I also find the seats very comfortable. Infact everyone who has been in the car have commented on the comfort factor.
kev

yep mega, the engine has now bed in nicely thanks, very smooth except for the jerkiness in traffic queues when you have to keep dipping the clutch to stop the rocking horse effect.
one thing to note though, i had my sideskirts bonded on (under warranty) because they are only screwed on at the ends with double sided sticky pads spread along the length which were starting to peel away, anyone else noticed this? bit annoying really as salt and grit can get trapped down there
