MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR 180?

On my way into work this morning, I followed a 02 registration yellow ZR. I thought the little badge underneath the ZR on the tailgate said 160. However, when we stopped at traffic lights, and I got a bit closer, I could see that it clearly read 180.
Forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but I was not aware a ZR180 existed. I followed the car for 1/2 mile trying to listed to the engine (4 or 6 cylinder) but couldn't tell. It then pulled into the staff car park at SGL MG-Rover in Chorley, Lancashire.
Is it real, or is someone playing with the badges?

Someone having fun with badges - not a 'real' car. But look out for a 1.8 turbo engine in a certain other MG Z saloon.

I never saw under the bonnet but apperently a certain MGR dealership (Sterlings?) race a ZR with a V6 dropped in. As I say, I never looked under hood but someone I spoke to at MGM 2002 assures me that he did see the enginge, and it was a V6!!

The car was at Oulton Park back in April or May and in X-power livery!

did you notice how many exhaust tailpipes it had, 160 has 2.

ok, not the car in the MG trim, I believe they re-kitted up the it with the MG bits and gave it an X-power coat of paint. The car war on the circuit not rallying.

The car had 2 exhaust tailpipes, so it looks like it is a 160 with a 180 badge on the back!

Could be a private conversion - there have been some interesting modified R25/MG ZR sightings on the roads in recent months which the folks at Longbridge would like to have a look at (since they didn't build 'em!)

I wonder how it handles? Loads of toque steer, i bet!
Mega.

(Not to say i wouldn't want one)

Why would there be any more torque steer if any at all? Torque steer is not an issue in any of the V6 power MGR cars!! I have experienced torque steer in the past with my 2litre turbo MGs and Rover (loved it!!) :-)

Nope, just the 75

Insider

Oops! Well spotted! My excuse is that some of us tend to think in MG terms and not Rover ones! But you shouldn't hold your breath for any big engined ZR, TF derivatives...

I hope the last two insider contributors are not suggesting the 1.8 Turbo will not be offered elsewhere.
I've been waiting for months to have something like that in a ZS 120 upgrade-especially as the 135
is not reckoned to be suitable
