MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZR Theft Risk

Without going into any details of how, let me just say that a significant number of ZR's, especially 160's, are being stolen for ringing and breaking.

The standard factory fitted security has an achilles heel and so for peace of mind I would suggest additional proven security is added.

At this time I do not believe the ZS is affected in the same way, and the ZT uses different systems.

Roger, what about the TF?
Ian Walker

Yes, this was always my fear, without wanting to "Upset" people, there was never a real demand for anything from the Rover range.

Things have changed, unlike the early 90's System. This is not sucure and can be "Hacked" by verious means (Don't ask/ i dont know.

Make sure "They" Know your car has an uprated system, but not which one.

IIRC,there was a crime programme that featured performance rover that were nicked to be striped, they even had a crusher on site too, they pulled open the inner lining of the wheel arch and pulled out a box that deactivated the alarm.
They got caught after nicking a fortune and didn't really do that much time in relation to how much was nicked.
who said crime doesn't pay.

Crime DOES pay and very well indeed. They as in the goverment etc, try to give the impression that you would get caught unless very lucky. Infact its more a case of you don't get caught unless unlucky.

About 12 years ago i worked for a finance company (Indirctly) to repo cars. No don't start crying the people who we visted could pay for them, but didn't wish to. Sort of bussness types or fraud types, what shocked me is on one job we had to repo a Porche 944 turbo.

We had to "Skaff" the steering lock, it took a long time to do. In plane view of the world, no one not one person "fronted" us.
Not One.

Rog...does the same achilles heel apply to my ZR+120? As I recall, the 160 comes with volumetric protection as standard whereas mine is just perimetric.

The word of mouth information is taking some time to verify, however it does appear that a common method is currently to steal the keys with the alarm fob, usually by screwing your house. I haven't finished looking into the problem.

So, what you're saying is that they are using what have become "standard" techniques to steal cars???

You'll be telling us next that they deliberately bump into you at traffic lights and steal your keys when you step out to inspect the damage!

I look forward to the results of your on-going investigation into the problem. That should be a real informative eye opener.

A bit less scare mongering, please.
