MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS 180 Bang Bang Stop

Well all who were at the Luton Meet last night would have heard a very ill rattling ZS 180. Well the AA came and and had a listen and tutted loudly then towed me to the dealer.
The dealer listened to the engine but didnt tut just turn it off very quickly and said. "Terminal". Then his manager comes out to have a listen. The mechanic before starting sugested that someone get ready to catch the pistons.
I am waiting now for MG to get back to them before they can do a thing. I will keep you all posted.
And before you all say. Yes there was oil in it when I checked in late decemeber. They checked it at the garage but the engine had been turned over a few times and he couldnt find oil even though there was some in it this morning. !!!! Checked it to make but guess what no witnesses.
Have a fun day as I now am trying to find a rental!!

Chris, just a suggestion, make a note of the Engine number, if they claim to have replaced the engine, you can check to see if they actually have.

It's actually Chris' Company car. MG were supposed to get back to us yesterday with a plan of action - or at least atimeframe for a plan of action. Nothing yet.

People please, Mega made a decent comment then recieves abuse. That is sinking to lower levels

So he insulted MG saloons. So? Competition is a good thing. And anyway, Most of the motoring press loves the MGS, the Fast Focuses (Foci?) have a hard target.

Any by the by, Kieren, hope your car is sorted out fast.

MG haven't supplied a courtesy car as it wasn't included as part of the lease agreement. Chris now has a 1.6 astra - hopefully not for Tooooooo long.

I am the last person to defend Mega, but what did he do wrong in this posting?

He made a spelling mistake (what's new?)and failed to realise the true identity of the MGZS 180 owner.

Chris I hope that you get sorted soon. I also hope MG Rover sort out this oil burning business very soon.

Chris heard from Mantles this afternoon. They are replacing the engine - MG have asked them to complete the work - they have not done this before, but it should be ready on Thursday...apparently, or alledgedly or whatever...

same problem as mine after 5K miles - piston went - no engine to be had so got new car instead

even with 'newer' beastie oil consumption is quite high

Hi,

Sorry for the delay at getting more information. Well have to say well done MGR. Called the dealer on Monday. They said that a new engine was on its way and will be delivered today Thursday. They admitted new car so they have never done this. MGR say takes 10 hours to change. Well they said be two days as they never done it before. At least they were honest about it. So no problems.

So all is well I should have my car back by Wednesday.

So will update once more when I get the car back. Till them happy driving.

Steve, Rover just replaced the engine and sent the old one bqack to MG. They haven't given any reasons for the failure.
