MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS mudflaps

Wonder if the Maestro/Montego MG mudflaps would fit the ZS? If so they have a nice MG logo on them......plus I have two brand new pairs for sale! ;-)

£20 per pair.

Hmmm, long time since i looked at the mud flaps i had on my old MG Monty, but IIRC they were pretty flat and probably would fit the ZS as they wouldn't need to mould around the cill sections. May need to make some alterations to the mounting holes, but this is really quite minor work and is well within just about anyones' capability.

The only question left then is how would you feel about having a part from another (much older) car on your brand new motor? I doubt there will be (m)any people out there who would be able to spot it - especially as they are official MG parts from a vehicle designed around a very similar concept, so it is only the driver's feelings that matters IMO.

Some of us have been asking for official mudflaps for well over a year. Starting to think that I will have to look at aftermarket suppliers and adapt them to fit.

Some universal fitting ones have been made to fit, I suggested the MG logo from the Monty flaps, but I think it fell on deaf ears :-(

I gave up this weekend and fitted some of those crappy £4 flat ones from Halfords. I just drilled holes in 'em and used the screws that hold in the wheel arch liner. Look sort of reasonable, so I'd've thought that and flat mudflap'd do, and ones with MG logos would look good.

Had universal flaps on for a while as per David and they have done the job fine.

Although I've positioned mine quite high up so logos wouldn't have shown anyway, the aim was more to stop bits up the side of the car where the door bulges out as I was getting stone chips half way up the front doors.

Agreed. After more than 12 months of "they may bring out something soon" from local dealer, I have decided to stick with Universal type. Dont look too good but do the job!

It's not been mentioned but MGRover still are able to supply MG mudflaps for the Monty range, the part number is GAC 362 A and they're about £20. I bought some for my Turbo in January, they are black with red MG emblem.

Cheapo flat mudfaps look fine on our F, and after one week the sills look sparking!

But can you get montego ones with Trophy Blue emblems? :)
David Bainbridge

Montego mudflaps are available in two forms.

One says 'Montego' in IIRC silver lettering.

The other type has a large red MG logo instead.

Other than the 'branding' they are identical. My first MG (a Montego EFi) had a pair of each, fitted across the corners so that from behind they read MG on the left one and Montego on the right one (and Montego / MG at the front, but you couldn't see both of the front ones at the same time) :-)

I'm not sure, but i suspect the Maestro flaps are the same type as well (obviously with the word Maestro instead of Montego) ;-)

The reason they may be appropriate for the Z cars is the fact that they are flat, rather than a moulded piece (like the MGF ones). This means that they won't have to fit around the cill sections (at least in theory anyway).

Another thing that has occurred to me is the MGOC do flat mudflaps with the MG logo on them for the MGB - these may also fit and may well work out to be cheaper still.

Just found this on the MGOC webpages (not sure if this link will work though):

>> http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?ACTINIC_REFERRER=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2emgocaccessories%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fsearch%2ehtml&REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2emgocaccessories%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fsearch%2ehtml&WD=mudflaps&PREVQUERY=RANDOM%3dNETQUOTEVAR%253ARANDOM%26PAGE%3dSEARCH%26SS%3dmudflaps%26TB%3dA%26PR%3d%2d1%26ACTION%3dSearch&PN=MGOC_Accessories__Mudflaps_164%2ehtml%23aF040#aF040 <<

In case it doesn't, i surfed to the MGOC pages, then the parts catalogue and did a search on the word 'mudflaps'. Results:

1.MG Logo Red/White (Mudflaps) £5.53

2.MG Logo Red/Black (Mudflaps) £5.53

3.MG Logo Black/White (Mudflaps) £5.53

4.MGB Logo (Mudflaps) £5.53

5.GT Logo (Mudflaps) £5.53

6.V8 Logo (Mudflaps) £5.53

7.Midget Logo (Mudflaps) £5.53

All prices are plus VAT, the top three are the most appropriate IMO and don't look too bad either. :-)

Nothing stopping you from painting 'em David! ;o)

The V8 emblem flap will be ideal for ZT-260 and ZT-XPower owners ;o)

Dont forget the 5.06 p+p :(

£5.53 + VAT @ 17.5% = £6.49 per pair.

Assume 4 required.

£6.49 x 2 = £12.98 + postage @ £5.06

= £18.04 for ALL FOUR.

Less than the £20.00 quoted for the MG Montego ones per PAIR.

SF <--- Who still thinks it's a good idea and will be going to the MGOC HQ on Saturday to have a look at them.

MUDFLAPS FITTED! :-)

As you guys know, last week I did a bit of research and came up with a couple of possibilities, official MG Montego / Maestro mudflaps and also, more promisingly, the MG Owners Club. I say more promisingly because the MGOC ones are substantially cheaper than the Montego / Maestro flaps. So, yesterday I popped in the MGOC HQ at Swavesey and managed to buy some universal mudflaps with the MG logo on them and this morning I set down to fit them.

The MGOC do a number of different styles of mudflaps, the majority of which are vehicle specific in so far as they are monogrammed with a V8 logo, or an MGB one. Two flaps in particular I felt were appropriate to the ZS application, one with a plain red MG octagon and one similar in red and white. >> MGOC Website linked above << I purchased 2 pairs of the red logo’d ones for the princely sum of £11.06 + VAT (there is a discount to members when you buy from the shop).

Fitment was a bit more tricky than I anticipated, despite the ‘universal’ fixing kit that comes with the mudflaps. Basically I wanted to make use of the existing fixing holes in the wheel arch and once I removed the screws from the liner I discovered that the removed ones were too short to be re-used and the new ones were too small in diameter. So I ferreted around in my ‘spare screws’ collection and came up with a real mix of different screws that fortunately managed to do the job! :-)

I also had to make an extra hole in each of the mudflaps as the ones provided do not line up with profile of the wheel arch. However, the job itself was quite straightforward and didn’t take too long and IMO they not only will do the job, but also look pretty cool too. :-)

I am going to try to post this on Jerry's site too with a photo of the finished article (linked from here).
