MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS180

Hi

Just wanted to say that while driving past Marshalls of Cambridge I spotted a spanking new "Ignition Blue" ZS180, all dressed up in it's sunday best sitting on the forecourt. So I tested my brakes on my ZS120+ turned in sharp, and before you could say "WOW WHAT A CAR!" I was pulled up in the customer car park and drooling over it.

This is the first time I have seen a new ZS180 in the flesh and I must say it is fecking lovely. I know the new looks are old news now - but not for me.

Not only does the car have gorgeous new alloys, but the body kit makes it look like how it should have looked from day one.

Obviously I took her out for a drive - which was and still is the first time I have driven the 180. It goes without saying that the feel of the car around corners etc feel no different to my 120, but when you floor the throttle - wow that KV6.... droooooooool.

Unfortunatley I did not get the chance to "Drive it like I stole it" as the car had only 260 miles on the clock and the sales rep was strict on how much torque I was putting down on the road. As I have had my 120 for just over a year and "know" the cars limits, I am sure could have given the 180 a good going over - that engine was just scremaing to be revved.

I am so wanting the 180 now - and I know the demonstration model I drove will be going cheap soon.

I really would have loved to give the bitch some welly though - maybe I will return later on when the car has clocked up a few more.

Finally a message to all you 180 owners out there - especially the new shape 180 owners...

GITS!!!

PS. They also had the big boy V8 on the forecourt too, but that has not been released for demonstration yet - but when it is....

PSS. Even after driving the 180 my 120 does not feel sluggish at all, and it still puts a smile on my face. When I first took my mum for a drive I said to her - have you met "K"ay yet?" And she was slightly confused until I hit the lanes spun the needle to 5,500+ and said to her "Meet Kay...". If I get a 180 I could introduce my mum to Kays older sister ;op

I've got a ZS180 '52 plate. Dealer gave me the new one for a courtesy car for the day as I was local. Drove the same but looks much more meaty.

What have we 180 boys been telling you all this time.. :-) as for new look, shame about the rear end!!
Kelvin

Only disadvantage of the KV6 is its thirst - I got around 13mpg going round Donington!

I manage to get to work most days without driving around Donington! :-) 26 - 28mpg around town & 32+ on longer runs!

I have had it under 20, but never as low 13!!

Well the KV6 is a 2.5 litre engine, so I suppose you can expect it to drink.

My mate has an RX8, which as you all may know is a 1.3, which is also a very thirsty engine.

At least with the ZS180 you get the gorgeous note of the KV6 growl, and not a whining wet hair-dryer.

ZT 160 V6 - been as low 18mpg on a cross-country dash over Alsthom, and as high 40mpg on a saintly 65-70mph drive up the motorway over 250 miles.
As Demon says, the growl is worth the pain in the wallet!

Go on, you know you want to Demon... >:o)

I know the feeling Demon, I have had my 120+ for 6 months now and do love the handling. But I want a 180 I have 2 choices get an 03/53 now or wait till next April :-( to get a new shape. What should I do?
Barry West

I'd wait until April; the new interior is a vast improvement IMO. :o)

My boss from Germany came over this week and admired my shiny new ZS 180 (royal blue, 160 miles so far) in the car park. Very pleased, but then he said "Yes, very nice. Looks just like a BMW". Hmph. I suppose he has a point though. Perhaps I can find some of those enormous MG transfers they used to put on the side of MG Metros in the early 90s just to avoid confusion.

I had a similar expierience to Demon last week. Driving down from John O Groats to Lands End in my Metro Turbo we had to stop at a Rover garage to try and get a spare part (somewhere in Wales I think) and they had an X Power Grey ZS in the forecourt with the full body kit and the new alloys. WOW! Looks great - much better than the old ZS. I want one too but cant justify the expense (yet). Interesting that the new look work really well on the ZS but (IMO) does not work on the ZR or ZT.

ps whilst there had a sit in a cityrover. The build quality was appaling - made my Metro seem like a Rolls inside and the metro is 16 years old.
