MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT and ZTT Special Member Promotion

It has just been announced that MG Rover is offering a special deal to MG Car Club and MG Owners' Club members. If a member orders and registers a new ZT or ZTT (the estate) before the end of the year, a 10% discount will apply. A mail shot to members of the two main clubs will be posted shortly. In the meantime, anyone interested should contact the MGOC or the MGCC.

Thanks MG Rover, nice one!

What about ZRs and ZSs :0(
Climber

Come along to the MGOC stand at the NEC this Saturday at the NEC and you may well have the chance to put that question to Kevin Howe (MGR Chief executive) who will be receiving a presentation around midday.

Hi Climber. It's a good question and I asked that too. The answer was that basically the whole range is selling well and that the margins aren't there at present to discount the other models. But they did want to recognise the efforts of the main clubs and to respond to the fantastic publicity and support. I guess that there is a margin in the ZT and ZTT which enables the offer to be made. However, the offer doesn't run into January 2002 and is, I feel, a marketing test. If club members respond well and if greater margins can be earned on these and other models in future then we may see other offers. If you are considering buying a ZR or ZS, we do have a link with a dealer who, like other dealers, cannot give discounts but who has found an acceptable way of saying "Thank You for the order.".

With manufacturer's price cutting, dealers no longer buy cars and sell them at profit or take hefty commissions. Dealers generally get well paid as they sell blocks of cars including all of the range. This method of funding dealers is becoming common throughout the whole car industry as list prics are forced downwards.

Have fun

well according to my local dealer today, rover are knocking £2000 off the price of all r75 saloon/ tourers including the zt + zt-t if it is a purchase, or paying the first 3 payments if it is on lease.
are rover having trouble getting rid of the 75's?
rob

Obviously its great to be able to afford a new £20000 MG ZT and if i worked for a company that bought me a new car every three years i would have one , but the thought of putting £20000 of my own cash into a new MG or Rover leaves me cold . Much better to wait a couple of years and pick one up from your local dealer for £8495 , Residuals for Rover have never been good , look how much a 1999 620 ti costs now , £6495 ive seen them for with 36000 miles , £22000 new! and still they cant shift them , but thats mainly Rovers fault because they never marketed the 600 properly , i used to have a 620 ti and most people had never heard of it , ah well , its only money . I now own a 200 BRM , possibly an "instant classic" though the jury is still out on that one .
kevin

Sorry can't support the thought the the 600 was good car badly marketed.

It was a very boring Honda in a silly frock. I did try one and even at a modest 6' 1" I did not fit!!! While in the showroom, I tried sitting in a Metro. - lots of space!

Selling a car with a Rover badge that won't even take a normal sized Englishman aint a failure of marketing, it is a failure of product design.

Cheers

Patrick

PS I suppose they could marketed it as designed specifically for ther virtically challenged
Patrick

Sorry Patrick , but i thought ,as did the motoring press , that the 620ti was the best car Rover ever made up to that time , it was very fast , handled pretty well and looked smart . B*W didnt want Rover selling performance cars so any further development work on the car was stifled by the Germans , hence the "Relax" marketing campaign in the late 90's by Rover .Admittedly the normal 600 is a Honda in a pretty frock , but it still outsold the Honda even though it was some £2000 dearer . A Rover is still more desirable than a dreary old Honda or any Japanese car for that matter , the Viking badge is probably one of the bast looking motifs on any car today and i am proud to buy British .
kevin

If only they would lower the driving polistion and fit some RECARO type seats. Yes Yes i know i keep going on about but look, if they did the ZS would easy beat a Honda Acord type R( £16,500 v £22,450.)

MEGA

600 ti - nothing really wrong with that ROVER engine though. In a period noted for bland "world-euro" car styling, the 600 in all it's forms although a little bland itself, was better looking than all those other "blandies". Dont think this is simply pro-brit blindness on my part. I think my eyes still appreciate good looking things. Like MGFs and a well filled blouse ... especially when they are together ... :o))

Ford have REALLY tried to shrug off that bland image and have partially succeeded with things like the Ka and Focus, but, within a year or two they're all begining to merge into that blandness again as other manufacturers follow a sucessful style ..... DOH! Saw a new Mondeo parked alongside a new Mercedes in a local car park - both white - both looked like the SAME car when viewed from the rear. You could never confuse a Ford with a Mercedes when I were a lad .... :o))

What's progress Dad?

Meantime, back on thread: Would those additional discounts apply to already discounted ZTs such as the good looking Red ZT190 with big alloys in my local showroom. This car has recently been registered but never been out of the showroom. Original price £22095 - now available @ £18945 .... get thee behind me temptation .... :o))
