MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZT Plenum Chamber
I remember a comment earlier about the ZT plenum chamber being prone to clogging up and needing cleaning out from time to time. Can anyone please remind me where this is as I can't find it in the archive. I have water dripping from under the car several days after driving through rain, so I presume this might be the problem, and I'd like to follow the instructions as to cleaning. Malcolm |

Check coolant level, Look inside oil cap, check dip stick for mayonnaise |

Malcolm Where exactly is it dripping from? Is it water or coolant? The area in front of the windscreen can clog up with leaves blocking the drainage and this should be cleared to avoid damage to the ECU if the water doesn't drain. Also, coolant leaks are known from the water pump on older engines. Always good practice to change the pump when doing the cambelt. Otherwise, it is also possible that the air inlet hose from up in the wing may have got soaked but this would be from the front left corner. My old hose was quite soaked when I came to modify it for a cold air feed. there's a picture here showing what it looked like on removal. http://www.brit-cars.com/content/view/76/36/ |

It's definitely not coolant - just cear, crystal water and it seems to be coming from the same spot as you'd expect the airconditioner's condensed waste to be, so it might be something to do with a build up of aircon water. |

Malcolm Remove the covers in front of the windscreen (brake master covers and on left side), and check for leaves etc. Water can collect here and this maybe why you are seeing water dripping out slowly as it is near where the aircon would also drain condensate. |

Thanks Martin - the water stopped dripping after about three days, but it's raining again (no-one here is complaining as you might imagine!) so I'll see what happens this time. Malcolm |

Malcolm - as Martin says -open bonnet and remove the cover in front of the windscreen on passenger side - but lever it up carefully - the plastic "rivets" can jump out and disappear inside the engine bay/floor etc.- Shine a torch down and look for leaves etc. & while you are at it - replace the pollen filter which lives in there.cheers Cam |
