MG MGA - 1500 rear plinth location ?

For my 1500 body rebuild, I was only able to secure one 1600 and one MK II rear wing. As good rear wings in uk are very hard to find.

I searched Barney's site and also the bbs archive and could only find the attached 1600 rear plinth location drawing.

Does anyone have the equivalent for the 1500 please?

Thanks in advance
Mark

Mark, If I remember correctly from when I bought 1500 wings for my 1600 I just had to drill the extra hole at the top. The bottom three had the same positions and diameters........................Mike

I can confirm that - if you have a 1600 rear wing the 1500 rear lamp plinth fits on directly leaving one spare hole covered up. No problems! Had to convert my 1500 back from 1600 lighting some time ago and it was straightforward.

Obviously I do not have access to the holes on my fully assembled 1500 car with the rear splash guard in place. However, I measured the the distance from the rear of the plinthe (not the rubber seating) round the curve to the bottom of the wing ("line of bend for lower flange") as per Barney's line drawing and it is 9" spot on.

Hi Bruce, you appear to be correct. The 1600 wings are drilled to take both Early & Middle models of plinth.

Alas this does not help if you have a new or 1600 Mkii wing. Thankfully I have one sample.

I've updated the diagram to reflect this but can't confirm the exact measurements yet until I find a flexible tape measure. So not got the drill out just yet.

Appreciate if someone can confirm the measurements from an original wing before I drill.

Perhaps there is an exact angle at which the plinth should sit before you mount the Lucas chrome tail light? Alas even if I had this angle I don't have the tool to measure it anyway.

Thanks again

I have 1600 units mounted on original 1500 wings so I can check the relevant measurements from underneath.

This thread is interesting to me as when I fitted the 1600 plinths to my 1500 I reused the top 1500 hole where clearly I should have reused the bottom hole. Although they look OK (as I have not noticed in last 30 years until you raised this) they are now clearly too low when compared to original 1600s. I upgraded to 1600 lights purely for safety reasons after a few frights as I found no one saw flashing white/red 1500 ones even on the roads in the 70s. But I guess you are after originality.
