MG MGA - 1600 Spare tire clamping plate

Greetings all,

Hope everyone had and enjoyable weekend. Where might be the best place to find a spare tire clamping plate? I need the shoter version for my 1600 coupe. I have a very nice one but it's the long type but...

Got mine from www.littlebritishcarco.com but have no idea of the difference between a short and long version ....

Bob, just got mine from Cecelia at Scarborough Faire. They only have one size but it's well made and fits my 1960 A Coupe very well. It fits with a 185/65-15 tire and also with the original 5.6 crossply.

As two of the three messages mention the coupe, is it the front tyre bracket (coupe only), or the rear tyre clamp (coupe and roadster)?

RM, its fairly easy to cut and braze a longer tyre clamp to turn it into a shorter clamp. Its only the straight leg of the clamp that's different.

Neil,

Thanks loads for the offer. Had I received it sooner I would be more than happy to make the swap. Unfortunately, since I didn't need the longer version, I guess I could have cut it down as J.H. suggested, I went ahead and put mine on Ebay to sell. Hoping that should a short style come available, I could use the proceeds from the sell to buy the type that goes with my car. Thanks again...
Cheers!

For others who responded, when MG moved the spare tyre fully into the trunk, the attahment point for the tyre clamp was relocated to the rear center of the trunk pan which necessitated a shorter clamp.

Thanks G Hudson, I'll email them to see if they have the one I'm seeking. In the meantime, any other tips would be appreciated.
