MG MGA - A little thing I know

Greetings all,

It's a minor detail..."a little thing I know", however, regarding the attachment bolt that secures the front bonnet hinges. The one that is appearent when the bonnet is raised, in the channel. Was that head painted body color or left unpainted. I've tried looking at available photos but all have that aspect hidden. Just wondering if I need to paint the head before I install the hinge. Cheers!

Awwwwww Robert, this is the wrong forum to bring up "the little thing" and whether or not it's head should be painted........
(OK sorry guys, shouldn't have drank that last brandy)

But seriously, I think the bodys were painted pretty much assembled and things like bolts, washers, etc were painted body color.

Cheers

That's what I figured....both points of your reply. However, my old boss used to say, it's the little things that make the difference. Most everyone can get the "big stuff" right, i.e. yes, the body does get bolted to the frame.....smile. I tried to find a suitable photo but none to be found. Thanks for the reply.

I would like to help, but mine are the color of rust.

Robert I'm not certain about those in particular but when I took apart my car a large number of the fasteners showed signs of the original paint when I went about cleaning them up.

Of course when I had them plated and put everything back together I just left it all silver.

"Was that head painted body color or left unpainted?"

YES

My guess is that some were and some weren't. Since the car was painted after body assembly, getting the paint into that deep cavity and getting 100% coverage was probably a hit and miss situation.

Good answer Chuck. LOL!
Robert - if it was me, I would paint the bolt heads body colour (or color) after fitting them. They'll get scratched by the spanner (wrench) as you tighten them up ayway.
It's good to have a small bottle of touch-up paint and a small brush for these little things, but if you leave them unpainted no-one is going to freak out over it.

Thanks all,

I'm just tickled to be at a stage in the process that the question even came up. Still boocoos way to go!!!
Calling for 26"-30" inches of snow here between today and tonight. Great time to be "stuck" in the garage!
