MG MGA - Aftermarket Temperature Gauge
59 MGA Capillary tube broken on original Smith's Oil/Temp gauge; many years doing without. Looking to connect an aftermarket gauge with tube and sensor. With any luck removing the old sensor from the housing, does anyone recommend an inexpensive gauge that will fit? (until I decide to go with a new "original" like Oil/Temp gauge hundreds $) Thanks! Have the old one refurbished. The last one I had done in the UK cost around 100 USD. Just cut off the sender bulb and leave it in the head to use the car while the gauge is being redone. You can also cut off the tube behind the gauge before sending as it all gets replaced. I recommend Speedograph Richfield as restorers. |

Eddie Your Smiths won't have been the original. The MGA was fitted with Jaegar instruments. Steve |

I had Nisonger repair my TD Oil/Temp gauge. It's similar to the MGA gauge. Works quite well now. Jud |

Both the aforementioned Nisonger Instruments and West Valley Instruments both have excellent reputations for instrument repair & replacement; you can't go wrong with either. Compare prices & see who can do it cheapest. If all you're looking for is the attachment & pressurizing of the bulb & line, it should be nowhere near the cost of a new gauge or full restoration services on the old one: http://www.nisonger.com/ https://www.westvalleyinstruments.com/ |

Thanks for the advice. Incidentally, my gauge is the Jaegar original Eddie |

The other thing to consider in choosing an instrument repair/restoration company is turn round times. I don't know about US companies but this can be many months or longer with some UK ones. |

Should plug the oil pressure line as well if cutting that tube off. |
