MG MGA - Aluminium crossflow radiator

I found this Aluminium Crossflow Rad on ebay - as I need a new radiator was wondering if anyone has had experience with this. Wonder if it cools better than the original rad or to be more precise the chinese knockoffs supplied by Moss.

My Rad sprung a leak as I was preparing it for the trip to Key West - now reduced to taking the 07 Mini Cooper S.

The web site for these guys looks pretty interesting:

As another MGA owner with perennial heat problems, and living in Texas, I might think about this one.

I have a personal dislike of aluminium crossflow radiators. They are always a problem on cars that have them. We find that on the Triumph Stag they are the car's weakest point, they continuously block up with aluminium oxide and cause serious overheating.
Also copper transfers heat better than aluminium.

I have talked with these folks--they seem like nice people and the product is probably well made. I opted instead to go with a Ron Davis unit (built for early MGB so I will be modifying the brackets). One one important item to note is that with the overall 3 inch thickness of these radiators they barely fit in an MGA and may require cutting of the horizontal panel between the grill and radiator depending on your car's build.
The Ron Davis radiator is not yet mounted, but I have no doubt it will cool well as this is the same radiator I have observed many racers using. I am rebuilding my old radiator to be recored using the original type core. The intent is to test both radiators to see which one does better. I will not have these things complete for a couple of months, but will report back to the forum when I have results.

The chinese radiators are cr*p unless Moss has had a new batch made to a significantly better quality. I had three fail in less than 18 months. My original rebuilt rad, without a high performance core, now keeps the car at 70C or below all the time, in winter I have to use the radiator blind to keep it above 50C.

And that is with a supercharger

Mick, if you are using aluminum head or radiator than you have to use coolant friendly to alloys! Otherwise you will have problems that you described. Usually is state on coolant of you can use t on AL blocks, heads, ..

Just installed a Ron Davis radiator on my MGA. I had to send the first one back because it was too wide and hit the fan blades. The second one is more narrow. I have put about 400 miles on it so far without any trouble. I am happy with it and look forward to running cooler this summer.
