MG MGA - Aluminum Frame Section Covers
Anyone have experience/comments on use of those aluminum frame section covers used in the interior? Do they fit well (Moss seems to be the only supplier here and their quality isn't always good), how are they attached, appearance, durability, etc...? Thanks. George |

Sorry George, but at the risk of sounding stupid, what exactly are aluminium frame extension covers? I have never heard of them before. Cheers Colyn |

A mate here has them in his A (2nd set) The first set he had were from the UK somewhere and were chrome steel but they scratched real easy and didn't look so good after a very short time He's now got a set of the grooved aluminium ones and is happy with them as they don't show any scratches, I think they're Amco (or something like that) brand--They've got flanges on the sides of them for little self tapping screws that are hidden under the carpet That's about all I know about them He got the aluminium ones from Englishparts.com USA and they were just over $100 for the set willy |

I had to do a search to find out what they are, here's a link which shows the AMCO type. https://www.sportsandclassics.com/parts/mg-series/mga/amco-style-mga-roadster-coupe-frame-rail-covers/ On my car, they look like they are made of vinyl covered card. Cheers Colyn |

Thanks for all comments. Colyn, appreciate the link, I wonder if those are the same as Moss sells. Still undecided if I'll use. |

Neither my UK or US options lists them, were they really ever BMC options? Anyone know? I would avoid them as I wouldn't want to cover vital STEEL chassis members with cosmetic ALUMINIUM due to potential electrolytical corrosion issues. Sorry to be negative but ... Paul |

There is no reference that I could find in any SPL or reference book regarding these frame rail covers as being original to the car, but they were a somewhat popular after-market add-on back in the day. |

They are not original. It may not be the brightest idea to introduce unlike metals in areas where chipped paint might allow electrolysis, either. |
