MG MGA - Another question for Steve Gyles

I want to buy a new master cylinder for my A. I know Steve Gyles had bought one some time ago, which was an AP Caparo. That is the brand I want, and I am asking Steve to kindly tell me where he bought his, and what was the cost of a new one.I also know others have bought one, can't remember who, so any one else can come forward and and give the information. It has to be an AP CAPARO, nothing else.

Happy new year to all

Thanks Steve & Art. Would either one of you kindly give me Bob's contact address, his email address, phone number or if he has a website the URL of the website. If it's not too much to ask, I would also appreciate if you can tell me what was the cost of a new master cylinder from Bob.

Art, Some time ago I had acquired a used cylinder from someone on this forum, but now I forgot who was the gentleman that gave it to me. I have a feeling that it was you Art, am I right?

I bought one from Bob earlier in the year too, after a problem with a cheap inferior manufacturer. For some reason cant find the invoice.

Not me Frank.
I had my old one sleeved at Apple hydraulics. Terrible job, so I went with the new AP.

Hi Art, sorry I was mistaken, my memory fails me drastically in my old age. I think I know who it was now. Thanks just the same. I may have to settle for a new m/cyl, but before I buy one my mechanic said he will remove the one in the car and see if it can be refurbished. I already made contact with Bob West, who gave me the total cost of the unit. Shipping to Malta is expensive though. The unit itself is not cheap either.
Anyway, if there is a need for a new one, so be it.

May you have a happy new year, I wish you all the very best.

Bottom line Frank is what price do you put on safety? Dominic frequently says in this forum that he does not mess around with inferior quality/second hand/refurbished brake parts such as the MC and I concur that attitude. Art has just stated his experience that shows not all reconditioners do an acceptable job. In another topic I expressed my concerns about the reconditioned carbs I bought many years ago. You have to be so careful these days.

Steve, I go along with all that you said in your post. I totally agree. I have now decided to replace the old cylinder for a brand new one. I have already contacted Bob West who quoted the full price of the Caparo AP unit. The car is mine and I do what I like with it, not my mechanic. I strongly believe that the brakes in the car must be 101% perfect at all times. Thanks Mr. Gyles and a happy new year to you and your family.

Good choice Frank. Remember we only have single circuit hydraulics.
I think I sent you some needle rollers for the layshaft in the past.
Happy New Year from a frosty Canada. -30 C
