MG MGA - Aussie MGs Driving the Americas
Have you been following the cars from Oz driving the length of the Americas. They have been going about 2 weeks, and are still heading south to Tierra del Fuego. There is one MGA and seven MGBs. The MGA, RIP, has already blown a new cylinder head gasket. http://mgpanamerica.mgcc.com.au , and click on Blogs. Peter. |

An informative blog on this trip is from Mike and Kay who have been associated with the MGCC of Victoria for many years - a trip of a lifetime - I'm trying to convince the navigator to give it a go even if it means buying an MGBGT (that seem to be the ideal car for this sort of trip - secure, my spanners and tools fit, MGA simplicity but a couple more creature comforts). http://mikekayblog.azurewebsites.net Mike |

It looks like a pretty amazing trip to be making no matter what. But I'm not sure if driving into Vancouver counts as doing the length of the Americas. 8^) I wish them luck.... You couldn't pay me to drive through Mexico. -Del |

I did part of the Africa trip with these guys two years ago. it was a great adventure and I am really sorry there wasn't a spare seat on this trip otherwise i too would be with them. Making a trip like this involves a huge amount of planning, which is pretty much all Dave Godwin does when he's not racing or playong with RIP. He travelled all the way from Cape Town to Abingdon without a single breakdown, which is a testament to how well he had prepared the car and looked after it en route. Another broke down every day, sometimes more than once. I will be following the blogs with great interest. There is another big bunch of Aussies coming for the Lands End trip in the summer, and they will then be travelling in Europe, so we will be welcoming them here in Switzerland en route. They apparently get bored with driving around Australia.... |

Del, Check out the articles on these guys and their route on namer.com. They are leaving the cars in Vancouver for a year, and on their return in 2016 they think they will drive to Alaska. Then they will drive across Canada , down to Louisville, KY, for MG2016, then Route 66 to LA. Does that qualify, in your mind, to doing the length of the Americas? Peter. |

Cool. I will have to check that out. Maybe they will hook up with BSCA (British Sports Cars Alaska) and I will get to see them. |

There doesn't seem to be such a website as namer.com... -Del |

I think a couple are continuing on from Vancouver to Alaska as part of this trip. Mike |

Sorry Del - finger trouble - it should be NAMGAR.com. They would love to meet up with car clubs along their route. They will cross into the US around April 16th at Douglas in AZ. Their route north is then dependent on how much snow is on the roads around the Grand Canyon, Denver, and Yellowstone. Peter. |

I eventually figured that out and looked at the site, thanks. |

Any way to communicate with these folks? Looks like they will pass through my place and it might be nice to hook up with them. |

It looks like a couple of them might continue on to Skagway, Alaska. Just a few more days would bring them to Anchorage, and a few more days beyond that would really take them to the end of the Americas at Deadhorse. Ken |

They will leave their cars in Vancouver from April 2015 to April 2016. Then some will drive to Alaska, and some will drive to eastern Canada. They plan to be at MG2016 in Louisville, KY, and then drive Route 66 to LA. Peter. |

Thanks Gary |

They have reached Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego, so are now driving north for the first time. There have been some issues - a blown head gasket, an alternator failure, and a broken tail light, but all have been fixed pretty quickly. Peter. |

What's the connection between Butch Cassidy and the MGs from Oz? Check out the latest article on www.namgar.com. Peter. |

The Aussie MGs have reached Potosi (altitude over 14,000 feet!) in Bolivia. Some have dropped back due to mechanical and personal problems - one couple lost their passports. Check out the latest article on namgar.com. Peter. |
