MG MGA - Battery cut off switch

Hey all. I am seriously considering a battery cut off switch for the MGA. My thought is that it should be accessible from the exterior of the car. Has anyone done this and where did it mount? Thanks, Tom

Accessibility from out side of the car is a good idea but on my MGA's I have them on the board behind the seats.

My cut-off switch is also mounted on the wooden board behind the passenger seat. It is easily accessible from the driver's seat and also from outside of the car. The switch is connected on the negative side of the battery.

Thomas, I agree with everyone in that you should site the cut-off switch on the rear bulkhead.
Its really close to the battery there and this makes it easy to install and also safer from a battery isolation point of view.
If you position it carefully you should be able to easily reach it from outside the car by lifting a corner of the tonneau cover so that no one can see what you are doing.

When you do decide to fit the switch, think very carefully about where to site it.
It can be really useful to be able to reach the switch from the drivers seat especially if you need to switch the power off in a hurry.

Will you need to be able to operate the switch without folding the passenger seat forwards? This is virtually impossible with a passenger in the seat and also it is really easy to break the switch by leaning the seat back into it. ( Ask me how I know?)

I have fitted the battery cut off switch with a key so that it doubles as a security device.

All good points from the above. While drilling the hole in the wooden board I added another and fitted a socket and wiring for a charger. It makes for simplicity when needing to charge the battery - It is only live with the isolator on of course.

Steve,

Is that a 'cargo net' on top of the battery cover. If so what are the end points connected to?

Yes, it is an elastic cargo net. I don't have a hood nor sidescreens on my car so I have made use of the space for luggage. The netting is secured to the two outboard seat belt anchor points - one above the inner wing and the other low down beside the seat.
