MG MGA - Bilge Pump Relocation
I have just removed the famous bilge pump from the 4" ducting on the carburettor side as I have never had cause to use it in anger to cool the carbs. For a bit of fun I relocated it into the trunking on the other side. The difference in airflow into the cockpit is amazing. Purely guesswork, but it feels about a 4 to 5 fold increase over my single speed Smiths fan. I have only tried it cold so far, so will try it out on hot at some stage and report back. Steve |

Steve - that is a fabulous idea! I have used my bilge fan many times (most recently two weeks ago sitting in 80+ sun while waiting for our track time at Watkins Glen), but I now will think about adding a second one to increase the airflow through the cockpit. - Ken |

I did start wondering what I had missed on my mga all these years concerning amphibious possibilities. After reading my worry was assuaged and the idea seems a good one ..but I think I will use a bilge fan. |

I have now run it hot. Best described as being on the receiving end of a hair drier. Beautiful warm/hot flow and in demist mode a terrific blast of air onto the windscreen. Steve |

I did this as well...it's great to have a working defroster! What I need to do is figure out a way to mount a switch for it. What have you or others done? Just under the dash? JIM in NH |

Jim I have a plinth under the dash between a couple of the dashboard stays. I have the cigarette lighter socket, electric windscreen wash switch and the bilge pump switch on it. Steve |
