MG MGA - Black dashboard
I have seen black dashboards in vinyl and in lacquer. Anyone know when they were first introduced ? |

Roger As I understand it all Twin Cams, 1600 mk 2s and all coupes had trim coloured vinyl covered dashes. Coupe ones also have extensions on the end but will fit in roadsters. I don’tknow about any use of lacquer? Paul |

Paul is correct in his comments regarding vinyl dash coverings. As it relates to paint, lacquer (cellulose) was the original paint finish on all MGA's, with the exception of Iris Blue which was enamel. The dash boards were painted the same color as the body, with one exception: cars painted in black had their dashboards painted to match the interior trim color; go figure! |

A previous owner has covered my dash in black vinyl - peaking underneath I can see the red paint - mine is a black car with red interior |

I think red dashboards in black cars look pretty good. It sort of completes the look of the red interior and it's the place where the red shows up best from a distance.![]() |
