MG MGA - Body on frame sealant

Hi Guys, I'm just about ready to reunite the body of my 60 Coupe back with the frame, after a 2 year restoration. I've got all the cork packing gaskets installed on the frame. Is there any sealant between the goal post gasket and the heater shelf. It seems that there should be something there to ensure a tight seal. Many thanks.

Happy New Year,

Andy

Andy,

There was no sealant used originally and I would not use any now on any of the cork packing. The goal post bolts on the cork seems adequate for a tight seal.

You might consider sealant on the joints of the foam on the side rails of the frame and on the corners near the rear bulkhead. This is to fill the gaps in the foam seals. This will depend on how tight your body/frame joints are.

Hey Andy what color red is that you used?

Your progress is looking great.

Andy, I have always put a dob of glue, here and there, on the bottom side of the cork packing, just to hold it in place when positioning the body.
Looks great - good luck, Barry

You can use some caulking in the four extreme corners of the cockpit. See here:

Christopher, I think that the red looks lighter and slighty orange in the digital pictures, but in fact is just on the blue side of red. The actual color is "Brilliant Red" and is from a late model Audi TT Coupe which is not dis-similar in shape to the A Coupe.
