MG MGA - boot lid lock

My car has had the remote boot lid lock removed and replaced with a turn handle that is operated from outside
like most other boots of the era. I have got another lock and fitted it to the body and the internal fittings as it goes into the cab but I don't have a striker and bracket to fit to the lid. Could someone please send me a photo of an original as I'm hoping I may be able to make one.

How's this? See attached picture.

Apart from the mechanism, the other trick is to "fill" the hole where the handle used to be. Even when "expertly" welded, the repair shows after a few years of use (I can speak from experience!). Better to buy an unmolested boot lid (used to be readily available, in good condition, in US "breakers/wreck" yards, not any more?) with mechanism etc attached.

Sorry, now see that you are an Aussie (like me!). You will have to try the known local MG outlets, I got an excellent boot lid from MG Sales here in Adelaide but even if Bob still has one, getting it to you (undamaged) could be an issue.

Thanks Barney, very informative picture and very different to what I had imagined. I should be able to make one up.

Barry I understand what you mean with an issue of two mudguard mounted mirror holes appearing after years.I hadn't thought of another lid and will ask around. Thanks .

I was talking to Bob Bazzica of MG Sales tonight and he tells me that he still has several MGA bootlids. They are usually in good condition as they are in a relatively "safe" location! MG Sales can be emailed on mgsales@mgsales.com.au or (08) 8346 0888. I am an old friend of Bob, who is very reasonable with his prices, but he points out that (as you are no doubt aware)vulnerable body panels such as this are awkward to transport!

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the suggestion and contact.
John.
