MG MGA - Boot Seal

Has anyone had problems fitting the Moss boot seal? It's so thick that I can't get anywhere close to closing the boot lid, even if I were to put all my weight on it.

It's far too thick. I got a thinner one from Bob West, but need to glue it down so it doesn't sit up in the corners and make the lid stand proud of the shroud.

I bought my boot seal from Macgregor. I haven't fit it yet but it looks correct and is supposed to be very good.

Todd Clarke of Clarke Spares has one for sale. Always first rate stuff. The part # is P82.

I would say Todd Clarke's seal is absolutely perfect. The width is spot on and it doesn't slop around from side to side like my old one. Plus it goes around the corners well. I like the fact that the top face is convex so it doesn't take as much force to squash the rubber. When it's in position the top is at the same level as the surrounding bodywork and it looks so right. 10/10 for this one.

For the record it is 15mm wide and 11 mm high................Mike

I got mine from Macgregor and it was just right. I threw the one from moss away.
Ed Bell

Thanks folks, exactly as I suspected. I'll throw it back over the counter at Moss.

The MacGregor seal is magic. See here:

Someone recently found a good use for the Moss boot seal. Apparently it does a good job of filling the gap between back edge of the boot floor and rear body valance.

I also bought mine from Macgregor. It fitted perfectly and the boot lid sits just right. It's square in shape and it's hollow not solid rubber. No need to glue it on, only a tiny drop of glue on the two ends is all that's needed to keep it in place.
