MG MGA - Boot seal fitting, looks odd

I am doing a preliminary panel fit before the final body work is started. I purchased a new boot lid seal from McGregor's in Canada since I hear it is correct for size and compression.

With the lid bolted down in the proper position, I set the seal in place and closed it up. The seal fit rather tight but it's seated in the correct manner. I can clearly see the rubber in the boot to body gap and it seems it's wanting to squish out a little too, not above the panel but it's filled the gap. Are other seals available that will not be so noticeable?

I haven't seen a correct A up close in a while so I was just wanting to confirm this is correct. It seems that once painted, I will see a big black ring around the lid...

I recently installed the MacGregor boot seal, and I like it a lot, especially the fact that it is soft and allows the lid to close flush and latch easily. I appreciate the idea that it fills the channel and will generally keep water out of the channel. Think of the bit of seal showing around the edge of the lid as an accent stripe, similar to fender piping. The alternative would be a narrower seal leaving a gap there to collect water.

I also have the same seal in my car and it fits and works great. The one thing I do find and it isn't a problem is that water gets under the seal when I wash the car. I simply remove the seal and dry the channel and seal before putting it back together.

I tried a cheaper solid foam rubber seal before I fitted the one from McGregor. With the cheap seal it was almost impossible to close the boot lid and the boot lid projected above the back of the car. The one from McG is great. It squishes down nicely and fills the channel completley. I like the look of the rubber seal between the boot lid and body. When washing the car water collects at the bottom of the channel which needs drying out.

What type of adhesive is best for mounting the boot seal onto the boot lid?

I used 3M super weather strip adhesive. Still there 22 years later. (Yellow Gorilla Snot)

Surely you do not mount the boot seal on the boot lid?

Don't glue it to the lid. Glue it to the body, see Andy,s picture above.
