MG MGA - Boot (trunk) seal

I've just trial fitted a new boot seal from SF and the boot does not close properly and stands proud of the opening. Without any seal in place the boot fits perfectly flush in the opening. The seal from SF is 5/8" x 3/8" and fits into the grove but it appears to be too firm to compress enough for the boot lid to close completely flush. Any suggestions appreciated.

Have a look here, It's the only one that will fit. You may need to copy and paste the link below.

I agree. MacGregor makes the one that works correctly.

Andy,
Try notching the seal where the hinge/lock fixing screws protrude into the channel. It worked for me.

Andy, I took a sharp pair of sissors and cut mine to be half the thikness. The cut side looks a little rough but I put that side down in a bead of silicon caulk.

Thanks guys. My new boot seal arrived today from McGregor and I agree with you that it's the only one that fits. I had previously tried 3 different types and none of them worked very well. It goes directly into the grove without any glues and fits perfectly and looks great. The boot lid closes nicely and clicks shut. BTW delivery from Canada was less than one week.

Thanks Andy

Andy,
Glad to hear you have found a boot seal that fits and you are happy with it. Is the MacGregor seal solid sponge rubber or does it have a hollow section? Any chance of a photo of its cross section?
Thanks, Garry

Gary, the trunk seal is hollow in the middle. It measures 19mm x 10mm on the outside with a hollow slot in the center that measures 13mm x 3mm. It compresses down easily to 7mm. Sorry, I can't take a picture at the moment, my camera is down.

Thanks Andy, that's very helpful, based on that information, and the other thread contributors experience I will order one from MacGregors.
