MG MGA - Brake switch
Should there be a sealing washer for the brake switch? Either bottom or top of the hole? I see it is tapered, so maybe use TEFLON tape? |

No washer or teflon needed - just screw it in! |

So, where exactly is the seal face Chris? |
Art Pearse |
The threads are tapered, and the 5-way fitting is brass. In theory the brass should be soft enough to seal on the threads. In practice I always give it a wrap of Teflon tape. |

Thanks Barney. Will do! Never heard of threads alone to seal fluid pressure. |

Art The taper thread I guess sorts it. I have never had to do the Barney trick, but it's an option. Steve |

Our TD to this day has just plain thread against thread. I have never had a problem with leaks at that point. I don't particularly like teflon tape as it tends to shred and bits of the material could conceivably get into the brake lines and once wet, it is very difficult to see it. Cheers - Dave |

Amazing. You would never consider not taping or "gooping" tapered thread water fittings, or especially gas fitttings! Anyway, job done. |
Art Pearse |
These fittings are designed to go together dry. No sealant or tape is needed, or desired. |
