MG MGA - bumper nuts and bolts.
I have removed my rear bumper to paint it, and the support brackets. However, I cannot remember how to put it back together, and in any case, some of the spacers were missing. Can someone let me know the correct order to reassemble, with descriptions of the washer/spacers. The parts book I have is not specific enough. Thanks |

The SPL should be reasonable. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/spl/spl_1500_r.pdf Pg 29 of 62 = Plate RJ (facing pg R.20) Note item 53 (Flat Washer, one each side) appears to be surplus. I don't recall ever installing a flat washer in that location. |

Thanks barney, I had looked on your site before I posted my query, but must have missed that section. thanks again. |

I assume that items No. 40 & 45 have larger holes, to allow the shoulder of the bolt to come through. |

Bolts in those locations are not shoulder bolts. Those are square neck carriage bolts with smooth dome heads, chrome plated. Holes in those washers (40 & 45) should be large enough to clear the square shanks. |

I'm finally putting the bumper bracket back together. The previos owner had his own version of what nuts and bolts to use. Where abouts does the number plate mounting bracket fit, and will I need anything else other than rubber washers? ( I have all the correct parts for the bumper brackets. |

The Moss catalog has a good assembly diagram: http://mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29242 |

Thanks again Barney |

One final question (I Hope) Should the bumper brackets be tensioned when reassembling, to give some 'spring' if hit. Thanks (Barney probably!) |
