MG MGA - Caliper assembly

Ready to reassemble my split calipers.
In the WSM it refers to new "lock plates" when reassembling the halves. What did they mean? I will use loctite on the bolts.
So, the V grooved seal is the dust seal and the square one the hydraulic seal? At least according to the Moss catalogue.
Finally, is it OK to lube these seals with DOT4 or is there a special grease?
Art Pearse

I see some lock plates in the parts cat. but they bolt to the caliper retaining bolts. Looks like they just stabilize the hose. Why are they called lock plates?
Art Pearse

There are locking plates under the caliper bolts that fold up to prevent them from turning. Todd Clarke sells them.

Art-
WSM page3 MM4 just shows a lockplate on the main bolts, peeking around the top corner. I think these were later deleted, not certain, but no other calipers have them.
The lockplates on the mounting bolts are bent up to lock the bolts, well, OK! Like splitpins, they serve more as an indicator that the bolt has been tightened than as retainers.

Hydraulic seal = brake fluid, dust seal V filled with red rubber grease. Red grease smeared around the boot too,

You do not want hygroscopic fluid around the outside of the piston, since it attracts moisture, but you do want it lubed and sealed.

I see that new calipers are now available through Moss and MGParts UK, for quite reasonable prices. Anybody tried them?
When I started working on mine, they were unobtainable. I must try and not have several jobs on the go at once.

Here is a picture of the part from Todd's catalog. The part number is M126. He is at Clarke Spares and Restorations, PO Box 1501, Doylestown PA 18901. 215-348-0595. If you don't have his catalog get it. He has all the hardware bits for the A that you can't find anywhere else and his prices are good.

OK, thanks Keith.
I don't remember those being on the caliper when I dismantled it.
Art Pearse

Art,

Mine did not have the lock plates when I rebuilt them last year. I snugged them up tight and used thread lock on the bolts.
