MG MGA - Calling all fettlers....

Am starting to wear a small groove in the back of my head from the scratching....

Brand new door cards, just fitted to my car. Both sides fit the door perfectly with some adjustment. Car never had any door cards when I bought it as a basket case.

Only slight problem is that I cannot close the door as the door card fouls on the door rubber in the bottom front corner. Do I:-

1. Slam the door and pray that if I do that a 100 times it might work

2. Cut the door rubber to enable a better fit

3. Adjust the door in some way ..???!!

Any more sensible idea's are very welcome..!

Have a look at another A that doors close properly. From photo it looks like your doors don't line up correctly. I would be adjusting the door. What is the panel fit like from the outside?

Thanks Mike - Panel fit is perfect and the lines are great also.....

Hence the head scratching....

Your photo gives the impression that the card bows out quite considerably towards the bottom. Probably an optical illusion? Is there a gap between the card and the door skin at that lower forward edge? Does your card go right to the bottom of the door skin? Just had a look at mine and the card slides quite comfortably along the rubber strip, or just proud of it, and the door shuts nicely with a full seal with barely any rubber compression - just sufficient.

I also notice your screws are positioned differently to mine. I wonder if you need another screw lower down?

PS. I need to vacuum my carpet. Job for this afternoon!

You definitely have the wrong door seals. See here:

All door cards that I have fitted in the last few years have been too tall, and have needed up to 1.5cm trimming from the bottom edge (peel back the vinyl, trim the board and regale the vinyl)

You could try making new door cards in aluminium, say 0.5mm and save 2.5mm of thickness which may assist in getting a good door closure.
