MG MGA - carb banjo bolt size
the threads for the carb banjo bolt appear to be 3/8" 18TPI. I need to buy a tap for these. What is the thread pitch? Thanks. JIM |

to clarify - this is for the bolt holding the float bowl to the bottom of the carb...not the fuel inlet line at the top of the carb... JIM / |

I would hazard a guess that if fuel goes past the threads they are British Standard Pipe (parallel). If the bore is 3/8" then BSP pitch will be 19 tpi. All the screw heads and nuts are Whitworth/BSF on the SUs ...............Mike |

I will order a BSPP 3/8" - 19TPI tap then, thanks. JIM |

Jim - A 3/8 BSP has a OD of 0.6560", not 3/8". I would suggest that you e-mail Joe Curto at: JoeCurto@aol.com to get the proper size for the banjo fitting. Cheers - Dave |

Jim, My guess was off the mark. It's actually a BSF thread and you will need a 7/16" BSF tap. You were right first time on the pitch which is 18 tpi. ................Mike |

That is what I remembered from the TD carbs but didn't know if it was the same on the MGA carbs. Cheers - Dave |

Having received two different answers, I ordered both taps - the 7/16 BSF and the 3/8-19 BSPP. The BSF tap is correct for TD/TF - I confirmed that by calling Abingdon Spares, though they couldn't swear that it would fit MGA - though the carbs certainly look similar. JIM |
