MG MGA - carbon brush wiper motor

Looks like the brushes are 1/4" square. Anyone know the length?
Thanks,

I was just going to say "why not just buy a set from Moss?" then I saw the price - ! Over here they are normally only a few quid:

or $12.95 here

About 6mm square according to them which is pretty close to 1/4"

The depth doesn't matter so much as they will wear down to about 1/8" or less. Originally with a serrated edge that soon wears into a radius, anything over 1/4" will be fine, up to 3/16" I would say.

I will measure my spares tomorrow and if different will let you know.

I have previously been able to buy carbon brushes from my local Ace Hardware store. They were threatening to discontinue them recently. Any electric motor shop would have them.

I was told there are different densities of carbon brushes??? Anyone know the length?
Thanks!
R Palsgrove

Never heard of different densities. Just get one that is long enough, They are very easy to grind shorter.

I bought them (5/16"??) at the local hardware store and sanded them until they fit correctly in the holder and the curve of the rotor.

There are different densities for carbon brushes, but for a small infrequently used application like this I wouldn't worry about it at all.
