MG MGA - Carpet on the battery cover
Me again... Regarding the carpet that cover the battery cover on the coupes... Are the carpet edges folded under the edges/lips or are the edges bound? Seems if they are folded under it might interfer with the cover fitment and make it difficult to secure properly. Thanks! |

Robert, the battery cover carpet is bound on the back and both sides and does not turn under the cover. The front edge has vinyl trim that folds under the front edge. I know that tan wasn't a stock color but it goes so well with a red car. Andy 60 Coupe ![]() |

Thanks Andy! Where did you get your carpet kit from? |

Looks good Andy. Where are your seat belts from? |

Andy, your pic has attracted a lot of attention! Nice job, seems to be going well. What is the lighter tan colored strip, I thought the heel board had a rubber cap piece fitted to it on top? Thanks, George |

Robert the carpet kit came from Scarborough Faire and was there Woolon material which is real nice. When I fitted the piece over the transmission tunnel I removed their jute backing and added additional foil backed jute heat insulation material over the extreme dynamat which I had already stuck to the tunnel. The car is quiet and cool. Larry the seat belts came from seatbeltpros.com. They are 3 point seat belts without the shoulder mount. George the lighter tan strip is the vinyl trim that came attached to the front of the battery cover carpet from SF. The front lip fits over the heel board with the rubber seal on top. Andy 60 Coupe |

Andy, Looking at your photo of the battery cover/panel I can't see how you access the attachment pins/screws. How do you get the cover attached with the carpet covering them? Thanks! |
Robert Maupin |
Robert, the securing screws are located approx 3" from the front edge. I didn't glue the carpet to the cover around the screws so I can just pry up the carpet edge and turn the screws. In order to get a good seal between the cover and the body panel, I squeezed some black silicone on the edge of the body panel and coverd it with kitchen seran wrap and screwed the cover down. I left it overnight and removed the seran wrap and have a tight seal. Andy |

Sorry to be a party-pooper but MGA's were trimmed with Karvel carpet which did not require binding, etc. Carpet was glued onto upper surface of the battery cover and was returned around the vertical edge (but definitely not tucked under). There were square-cornered cut-outs to give access to the Dzus (slotted) fasteners which held the battery cover down. Price was an issue with these cars, they incorporated very few extra trimmings that modern cars sometimes have! |
