MG MGA - Cleaning fender piping?

This issue has come up before but now it is affecting my car! I have a BRG car with grey piping on the fenders(wings or mudguards) that have now got this brown crud on them in places. It is sticky when you try and remove with your finger nail. I tried a draftman's eraser pencil and it didn't work either, also tried Goof Off to no avail. Does anyone have a solution?
I use Meguiar's Gold Class wash and paint cleaner and their Gold class or NXT wax - maybe these products affect the plastic - I have used them for a few years but discolouration seems to be getting worse!

Mike, I have had the same trouble. The plastic seems to weather and go brown over time. You have to physically remove the discolouration, from memory I think I used a cutting type of polish but if the polish is aggressive I would tape the adjacent paintwork. It was a fair while ago and the discolouration has not returned.

Try lighter fluid, the type that is used in cigarette lighters.

I have just looked up the price of new piping. The cost is probably cheaper than trying all these solutions.

I've had to tape it off to protect the adjacent paint. Then attacked it with a Scotchbrite pad soaked with Goof Off. I think it may be the plasticizer in the vinyl coming out of the material itself. I suspect sunlight is the culprit as the more shaded parts are much less affected. Hopefuly there's a better solution out there..........

I would try a Mister Clean magic eraser. I have been stealing them from under the kitchen sink for some time now. They seem to be able to remove crud from just about anything. I would still use blue painters tape or something to mask off the paint so that the eraser does not polish it in the process.
