MG MGA - Cold Air Kit

In the middle of a face lift of my old girl and note that the Service Parts list has a kit referenced " Cold Air Kit " as item 30 on page r.46 .( with individual parts being items 31 to 43 ). No heater fitted to my Oz'delivered car and just want a fresh blow ( fan assisted or not ) to the feet. Does anyone know where I can get this kit ??

I believe that the factory cold air kit would be very rare. I would not be surprised if they did not sell any of them.
If you can find a normal MGA heater you could leave out the hot water radiator from inside the heater unit.

The cold air kit was just the heater box with the heat exchanger omitted and the inlet holes blanked off with grommets,

dominic...my problem is that the heater box kit costs about us$600 according to Moss and they dont sell the box on its own and same with other sales sources ( just heard back same from LBC )..and all I want is the empty heater tin box with 4 in hose inlet and the diverter assembley below (and in the cockpit)...I can then connect the 4in hose from car front ,,seal everything incl unused holes ( demister, water hose, fan etc) and i have a reasonable ram air supply to keep the nethers in reasonable ventilated shape on hot days....

Any ideas where to try for the box?

MGA heater assemblies pop up on eBay occasionally.

n, I am also interested in this subject and had thought I would make a cool-air scoop, attached to the shelf instead of the heater box, which could then be fitted up to the standard 4" hose. If interested, eMail me as above.

Just home from the Oz Nationals. Fabulous show, perfect weather, great organization, great cars and atmosphere and venue, well done Geelong MG Car Club.

Why not use the system that the factory fitted for hot climate racing (Sebring USA).
You do have to cut a hole in the hood (bonnet). Most people will regard that as a crime, but it is a factory modification.

See image for vent in in the bonnet forward of the windscreen. Image from inside to follow.

The air vent from the inside.
The part fitted to the underside of the bonnet will match with the rectangular part, over a hole in the heater shelf.
You can even see the felt seal that goes between the two separate sections.

I cobbled up a cold air system by cutting a 4 inch hole in the heater plate and hooking up a length of tubing from inside the grill. It didn't work very well as at slow speeds in taffic. A fan is necessary. I ended up fitting a heater, which is just ok. I disconect the water hoses for the summer, as even with the tap closed, heat still gets to the heater core and heater box still gets hot from the high under bonnet temp, There have been some heaters for sale in the MG magazines recently, and I have seen one in the MG centre PH. 02 - 9682 6655. Sports Car Parts have all the control bits 02-9875 1144. From memory, I did not have much change out of $1000. Sean

Mick..the hole on the bonnet looks intersting but dont have the guts to take the nibbler out for this 'enhancement'...it would be like chewing a hole on my own arm!
Will pursue the below bonnet options ..but not at $1000..thanks Sean!)

In the summer I replace the heater hose from the control valve to the return with a single line. This bypasses the heater box. I leave the control valve open to circulate the water. This allow fresh air in from the outside through the vent which helps a lot.

Buy a B box and modify it to fit.

At lot less than the Moss quote above...I hope it fits!!
