MG MGA - Color Codes

I am Trying to find a valid PPG code for Orient red. All of the codes I have come across have been invalid for my PPG Dealer for some reason... I got a profit code By calling PPG's Library and it seemed a little too Orange to me. I tried having them darken it a tad, which gave it a pink hue.

I have tried crossing all of the other Paint manufacturers codes I could find with no luck... Including the ones listed on mgaguru and mga-experience...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DuPont's Orient Red in Clear Coat Base Coat is the same formula since the 1960s. Other paint companys have to do a conversion. So for PPG you would need them to get to head office to convert the old formula into a new formula. I painted my car last year Orient Red (twin cam) and am very happy with it and the color is perfect. I did not want it to look like the corvette red.

I painted my 1962 MK-II PPG Victory Red. I didn't want the orange red that I see on a lot of cars. Unless you are trying to build a 100 point car, paint it what ever color you like. There are so many shades of red it is hard to choose one. Fortunatly a friend of mine had just had his 1956 Chevrolet pick-up painted Victory Red and once I saw it I knew it was the color for me. It's the red MGA on the right in the photo. I still have the paint code here somewhere if you are interested. You are welcome to come by and check it out if you are in the area. We live just south-east of Portland, just off of I-205.

I have attached a section of an old colour chart for Orient Red. It is probably of no use now, but shown just for historical interest.
Remember that colours on computer monitors vary widely so you cannot take much notice of the sample shown.

I agree with Ed, paint it a color you like--you will look at it more than anyone else in the world. I painted a 'Bright Red" GM code 81, WA8774. I really like it. It is very close to the Victory Red color without that Orange look.

Thanks Everyone, for your input...

Ed- Is that paint code Handy? I am actually doing the body work for a customer, and would like to make up some samples for him to choose from...
Probably wont be able to pop by anytime soon, we are in Ontario (1hr west of Boise ID) but thanks for the invite.

Cheers!
