Can someone translate the fifth item for me. "Correct indentation on rear beaver below bumper." |
Malcolm Asquith |
The mind boggles! |
Phillip Hughes |
Malcolm, across the bottom edge of the panel, there should be an offset inward. Without measuring mine, I would guess that it is about 2 or 3mm deep and maybe 10mm wide. Often when collision is repaired, this area is bondoed over. If an amatuerish repair panel was made, that replacement panel my have been made of flat sheet and has no offset. I believe this is what they are talking about. |
Chuck Schaefer |
Yes - but a "beaver" - what is that all about - thought it was called a valance. |
Cam Cunningham |
The most notable feature of a beaver is the broad tail. Therefore the rear valance panel is referred to as the "beaver". You might recall it's not the only tail referred to as "beaver". |
Barney Gaylord |
As always you are absolutely right Barney. My car transporter has a beaver tail.

Hey folks! As a former member of TRA- Triumph Register of America, an organization dedicated to the preservation of the Triumph TR2-3B models, I can say they have one of the best concours judging standards manuals and judging sheets. Not sure who to contact since I've been away for several years but their web-site might get you pointed in the correct direction and a contact to obtain a copy. Cheers! |

Mike, I had that list that Barney mentioned when I got serious with concour in 2004..to be honest, to check everything on that list would take 2 hours per car, and if you had 10 MGA's to judge...?? Here in Queensland, concours is a joke anyway, and the most preferred class nowadays is Pride of Ownership. Even the true concours in the UK has well and truly gone, with only single entries (e.g.Silverstone this year). Judging should be done on paintwork, and general cleanliness. |

Gary, That is the way we do it down here also - I will post a copy of our concours judging sheet in a day or two for comment. Originality is only a small portion of the total points - What I was trying to solicit is how other countries scored their Concours competition - no so much on what makes originality. Regards Mike |

Mike, Originality accounts for fully one third of the points in the scoresheet used by the MGCC Vic. and in my experience it is how original a car is that determines whether it wins or not. Good preparation and good condition alone will not win, at least not in the categories (B's and T Types) that I have judged at both National and club meetings. At the last Nationals a beautiful and beautifully prepared TC lost third position to a clean, but well used TC because it had a vinyl hood instead of a cloth one. My tuppenny hapworth Regards Aubrey |

Gents, Attached is the judging sheet that our club uses. You will see that originality counts for 200 out of the 600 to be allocated. Do other clubs use a similar scoring sheet? Mike ![]() |
