MG MGA - Coupe door bits

Sorry - you roadster guys must be getting fed up with my coupe only applicable questions. LOL.
Inside the coupe door are a number of right-angled brackets, and some have caged nuts on them. I can't find a parts book that shows these door bits. Has anyone seen these parts in an illustration, seen part numbers for them, and know if anyone supplies them now? They don't seem to be in the original factory parts list.

Peter,

Sorry can help with an answer, but the question took me back to my first MGA - a '60 Coupe. In a rush of youthful enthusiasm I decided to restore my coupe. This was about would have been about 1979 and the car was already a rust bucket. I dismantled the car in my dad’s shed and then came to the realization that I would not be able to afford to restore her.

One move later and I sold her. The only parts that the new owner called be about were those that you described. I thought that they belong in the doors, but beyond that could not answer his question. The answer has bugged me ever since and two roadsters later. Sure hope someone will be able to put the matter to rest for both of us.

If I am correct those pieces are for the bottom of the chrome window frame. They hold the bottom securely to the door frame and allow you to adjust the upper part of the window frame in or out to seal against the door weather strip.

Peter,
I don't bellieve you will find them listed in the normal parts peoples books. They do have caged nuts and use 10-32 bolts/screws. They use the same caged nut system that the windshield grab handle has. They are not that difficult to make if yours are not servicable. I had to make about half of mine. I could get you a drawing if you need one as I have a Coupe in my shop now. Hope this helps and have a good day!

Peter, I assume you mean the angle brackets that attach the bottom of the window frame to the bottom of the doors. I have checked my origianl factory parts book and I agree with you that these brackets are not shown.

The good news is that I have 2 of these brackets in original unrusted condition with the captive nuts and bolts. Contact me off line and you can have them.

Thanks everyone. I concur that these parts (2 per door) are to hold the ends of the window frame inside the bottom of the door.
It just surprised me that these are not shown in any parts book - probably because the original factory parts book does not have them.

PT, these brackets are slotted and have an important role in adjusting how far the window surround closes against the draught excluder. Before you commit yourself to screwing the bottoms of the window frame down tight to the brackets I suggest you do a trial fitting with the draught excluder to see what 'lean' is needed for the window surround to fit snugly against and slightly compress the draught excluder. Many coupe window surrounds do not fit closely enough to the body nor to the draught excluder. Its a 3 dimensional problem and the trick is not to commit until the door meets all the shut panel constraints.

I am currently rebuilding my coupe (1959). I have just purchased the anchor nuts through angloparts in the Europe. Excelent parts and they fitted perfectly. Send me an email if you require any info on them.

Greetings,

The brackets you question do indeed hold the window frames in place at the door bottom and also help adjust the sides eqaully so the window rolls up and down without binding. As for the captive nuts and cages, Todd Clarke sells a "coupe door kit" that contains all the screws (even those tiny little suckers), flat and locking washers needed to redo the door completely included the captive nuts you seek. A very nice kit, very reasonablely priced.

Another "coupe" mystery solved. Apparently these same brackets with their captive nuts are inside B doors, so the B people know them well.
See my latest quandry (soon to be posted) re weatherstrip along the doors.

This picture shows the front one on the left door. When I was ready to go back together I could only find 3 so I copied the others and made another.
