MG MGA - Coupe Headliner

I am ready to install my headliner from S-F. I have seen several posts recently of others installing theirs. My question concerns the strip that goes around the door opening and chrome door trim/drip rail. How does it go in and does it go in before or after the main headliner? Is the main headliner attached around the door opening like around the front and rear glass or is it loose and just held in place by the covered trim pieces? There was nothing left of my interior when I started this project so I have no references. Picture would be great!
Thanks,
Scott

Scott, I had my headliner installed by a professional upholsterer who had done one before and new all the tricks. I helped as much as you can in a coupe. The headliner folded over the front and back window lips and also folds over the upper door openings. The stainless steel upper door trim goes on last and the material does not go under the trim (although I have seen some that have and I don't like it). The door seal (pinch weld) goes over the edge of the door and covers the headline material that folds over the door lip. I'll send 4 photos in other emails so they should help you.

Andy, thanks for the info and pictures. That is how I thought it would go. My kit, which came from Scarborough Faire, has piece of the headliner material about an 1.5 wide and 4 foot long and the instructions say it is to be fitted over lip around the doors. That makes no sense to me.
Thanks,

Scott, I also purchased my headliner from Sf and it fit great. I did not use the 1.5" strip except for the A post between the windscreen and front door post.

Andy,
We coupe owners about to install a headliner salute you! That's why I love this site. Where else will you ever get this type of information?
OK..so, where did you get those sun visors? It looks like they come thru the headliner somehow. Please provide details.
Thanks,

Somehow can't bring up the photo which apparently shows the sun visors. They were similar to contemporary BMC cars (Austin and/or Morris?), the hinge was the same but coupes had little chrome snap-on "outer" corners which I don't think that the others had (an MG touch?).

Andy,
After re-visiting the photos it appears that the visors may be attached to (or behind?) the front trim band. The black edge may be a hinge?
Thanks,
Gerry

The trim pieces that are shown around the door openings, are they covered with some of the headliner kit material or with material from another source?
Thanks, George.
G Goeppner

Geoge, the trim pieces around the door and above the windshield are covered with the same material and are included in the kit (at least from Scarborough Faire).

I purchased the sun visors about one year ago on Ebay/UK. They arrived in the origianl paper BMC sleeve. They are attached to the face of the trim above the front window.

George the cant rails are coverd with the same material as the headliner. The ones that came with the kit from Scarborough Faire did not fit on the A pillar between the front window and door post. I finished up by making my own and obtained some material from SF for free. In the attached photo the origianl cant rail has blue tape attached.

Andy,
Thanks for the visor photo. The screws in the hinge, are they sheet metal screws? Do they screw into the metal "doubler" piece at the top of the windshield? This is the first time I've actually seen these and I know I want some. Do they come up for bid very often?
I have a SF headliner kit so I guess I better check the fit of the "cant" rails (new term to me) ASAP.
Great info....

Thanks again.

Andy, I think I am going to have the same issue with the "cant" rails. The angle and pattern don't match my dash very well. I am hoping to carefully peel the fabric back and trim to fit and glue back down.
Thanks,

Gerry to attach the visors I used 10-32 flat head machine screws. I drilled and tapped holes through the double skined header rail. I'm not too keen on self tapping screws on hinges.
