MG MGA - coupe headliner

I had my coupe headliner installed by a reputable interior shop in the area, but it didn't turn out well, has wrinkles in several places. I did not want to tackle that job myself. I gave them the headliner kit that Scarborough Faire sells, as it seemed to work well for others after a search of the archives. I complained to the shop, but they said that it gave them trouble as it didn't have enough material for them to work with. I might try to salvage it, but am asking for any other options that might be suggested. I heard one time that the original coupe headliner material can best be replicated by using a headliner from a '60's Ford Falcon. Anyone know if this is true? Of course, starting with material instead of a coupe specific headliner kit means that some accommodation for the bows must be sewn in. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, George

George,

The Ford material is not correct. The only way to get the correct material is to find the Alfa Giuletta material (grey) which is the correct pattern, and have it recoloured. This works well.

After 5 years of searching and collecting samples, this was the only option I found (see http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/coupe/cp104b.htm).

Interesting Mark, thanks.

I will not go into all of the sorid details, about my adventure with SF headliner, suffice to say, you are having the same major problems I had and you will not receive any satisfaction or guarentee from Cecilia. If you look up this issue in the archives you will see what happened.

With SF it is NEVER their Cecila/ SF) fault and ALWAYS someone elses fault.

Do the best you can and hope you never have to deal with SF again.

Not sure if this will be of any help, but I tried three kits from Moss. All the same - they'd been made with the pockets too narrow to accept the three bows. Got a good kit with correct size pockets from PJM here in the UK. Bit more expensive than Moss, but it was made correctly.

The Coupe headlining was probably the worst part of the restoration!!
