MG MGA - Coupe interior ??I am installing the door surrou
I am installing the interior door surround /upper windshield trim. With the headliner in and glass installed, I will need to drill throught the material. Any time I have done this the material catches and winds up on the drill bit. Do you have any suggestions how to prevent this ? |

Gordon In the past I have made a small slit in the material and inserted a small section of copper tubing (soft) to the drilling surface, holding the tube with vice grips. Success depends on how carefully you clear the path for the drill bit from any threads of the cover material. Frank Bruns |

I have not tried this but perhaps you could run the drill in reverse until the fabric is penetrated. |

I don't know if it would work in your application but, wherever possible, I use a hollow punch to make holes in fabric. Jud |

Because it is vinyl a friend suggested testing a heated drill bit to create the hole and seal the edges. I am going to try this on a sample and let you know. |

Another trick is to wind masking tape around the drill bit right down to the end so there's no 'thread' for the drill to wind the vinyl up the side of the bit |

You could use a pin to locate the original holes and avoid the need to drill. This is what I did. |

The drill and heat worked. It makes a clean round hole with sealed edges. I suggest using a slightly large drill bit than the screw. With the counter sunk washer everything looks great. |

I did like Mark said, original holes and no problems. Jim |
