MG MGA - Coupe restoration

I've just started to restore a '59 Coupe which had been laid-up for around 20 years, it was found in a 'cave' on the Isle of Wight! It's not as bad as that might sound, generally lots of surface rust but no nasty holes in the wings, sills, A or B posts. I've sprayed Jenolite, scrubbed and lightly coated in etch primer the front shroud and roof so far.

However, in terms of bodywork the rear valence needs replacing as well as the boot floor. My question is how easy a repair is this and any recommendations regarding where to get replacement panels? I have a MIG welder, very basic skill and Malcolm Green's MGA restoration guide.

Any help appreciated.

kevin, I did similar work as you describe on my coupe starting with a low to moderate skill base. Looking back I would say that with moderate skill and enthusiasm its quite doable. The body needs to come off and it helps if you can lift it high enough to get under and work on the floor pan from below. Tack the new floor pan in place whilst the body is still on the chassis to make sure the bolt holes are aligned as there's not that much tolerance.

Kevin,
Enthusiasm makes up alot for lack of skills. Just remember measure twice - cut once. Take your time, take alot of measurements and have fun. Malcolm Greens book is very good and with the help of the folks here you should have no problem. Have a good day!

Thanks all for the advice and encouragement. Dave, I spoke with Mick at Sports Car metal work and am going to have a look at his panels on Monday.

JH is it possible to complete the work with the body still on the chassis?

Many thanks Kevin

Kevin , it probably is depending on the edge shape of your replacement floor but you may end up with some cut edges or welds that you cannot finish off or paint properly.
