MG MGA - Dash switch chrome retainer tightening tool
Anyone know of a tool to tighten the chrome nuts on the dash switches I thought something similar to the image attached? Cheers Mark ![]() |

Holden do these... http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproducts.asp?sg=3&pgCode=095&sgName=Maintenance&pgName=Tools&agCode=0796&agName=Problem+Solving+Tools I tried linking directly to the page, but it didn't work. A bit pricey. It should be possible to make something out of a suitable diameter pipe. |

It seems that Moss do the same tools http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=18830 |

Not too difficult to make. I used a 3" length of mild steel 3/4" diameter rod, drilled a 3/8" hole in one end to a depth of 1.5" and filed the end to create the 'teeth'. You also need a hole for a tommy bar....................Mike

I used a couple of old worn 1/4 drive deep sockets. I filed them to fit. Sandy |

When I fitted a new wiper switch a couple of years ago for my 2-speed wipers I just used a thick ended flat blade screw driver to tighten the chrome nut. It was a two part process First it took me 2 minutes to tighten the chrome nut with the screw driver and it tightened it up just fine. Second it took me well over an hour to polish out the deep scratch in the painted dash that I caused when the screwdriver slipped! Serves me right! I will definitely make the special spanner for the next time I have to do this! Colyn ( Sandy, is that really your chosen Forum ID? |

Mark, I use a pair of cir-clip pliers with tape wrapped around the jaws to protect the chrome. |

The one I made is not as elegant as others have made. I just took a piece of 1/2" copper pipe and filed some lugs the right size on the end. I only tighten hand tight. I do like the idea of using an old 1/4" drive socket. ....CR |

I use a pair of right angle circle pliers, the pins fit the slots perfectly. |
