MG MGA - Deck lid luggage rack holes

My deck lid has holes for a luggage rack. I'll mount one if I can find one that looks good, otherwise, I'll close them up.

The footprint is 24" wide by 17" tall. Can anyone tell if there is one available to fit this?

Thanks.

The pattern matches the aftermarket Amco rack; very common on A's.

Thanks Nick.

I might consider picking one up and blocking off the holes until I need to mount it for a trip.

I don't think they're still in production...?

They come up on Ebay now & then and there are some UK based suppliers who recreate them; they are pricey however. You might find an MGA owner who has one they might give up; place a wanted ad on the MGA Experience site and you may get lucky.

Here are two possibilities for you.

1.)Leave the holes, paint the lid and order some similar-colored plastic plugs to fill them in until you find your luggage rack.

2.)I don't recall the name of it, but there is an brazing rod type material that is specifically made for aluminum. You heat the aluminum with a propane torch and touch the rod to it. I bought some for repairing the split edges on a spare boot lid but haven't had time to try it out.

I've decided to just fill them in.

I cut and filed disks from an old badly damaged door skin to fit the holes then had them TIG welded to repair an old boot lid. With a little fettling you would never know holes were there!

If you are thinking of filling them in with a polyester filler, be aware that the expansion/contraction is different in the two materials. You may always see the repair. I had the same thing. stripped trunk lid , found holes from previously mounted rack. I filled them by aluminum welding. I found another trunk lid at a swap meet and have a rack installed on it. I just change trunk lids when needed.
