MG MGA - Demister Finisher
When carrying out one of those minor jobs that always get put off, fitting the Demister Vents the correct way around (no heater fitted anyway). I found a felt gasket fitted between one of the demister vents and the body behind the dash. I have not been able identify this from any parts listing including BMC Service Parts List. What I would like to know is this an original part or has a previous owner been creative. If original intend use the one I have as a template for other side. Not that important but as I have finally got around to fitting the Demister vents the right way around thought I would do it properly. Cheers Shane |

Shane. My originals (Australian assembled) had thin felt. But the most important point is to angle the demister vent to blow on to the windscreen and not at the passengers. I have seen many the wrong way around! Barry |

I have seen that little thin piece of felt on many MGA's. Sandy |

The SPL lists: "Defroster with seal, left" AFH1748 "Defroster with seal, right" AFH1749 Moss Motors sells the seal #363-195 |

Todd Clarke, of Clarke Spares & Restorations lists them in his catalogue, a very comprehensive listing. I might also recommend his "MGA OWNER'S INFORMATION & TECHNICAL GUIDE". Marv |

Shane, You are right - these felt "gaskets" are also not shown in the original parts book (plate RR and page R40), but the nozzle is described as being "with seal", in brackets. However, I can attest that they should be there as I have found them on the two MGAs I have. Cars shipped without heaters still had the demister nozzles and chromed finishers under and on the dash cowl. Note that the air tube to the heater had a blanking peice (cardboard) installed in it at the front, so this needs to be removed if you are fitting a heater. Peter. |
