MG MGA - Destroyed By Fire
Oh dear. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGA-Chassis-with-some-body-parts_W0QQitemZ300302502199QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item300302502199&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Steve |

Actually, it might not be a bad deal. The body parts shown look fairly straight, and in the present condition, it eliminates a lot of work going down to the bare metal. If the frame is good, I am sure it is a pretty good deal. |

Hi Steve - I saw that come up too - how heartbreaking must that have been - hope he had it well insured - probably not if he is selling it on ebay. As Mike says - it might make a good project for someone - how difficult is it to prepare and paint over burnt metal ? cheers Cam |

I've just seen it on eBay - absolutely heartbreaking! I thought mine needed a lot of bodywork but I wouldn't take this on, surely if all the ally panels have melted then the steel panels must be heavily distorted. Time to check my insurance. Chris. |

My Healey is about 90% complete so I had it insured through my antique insurer as they said that homeowners insurance might not adaquately cover something like this. It is difficult to asign a value when the car is not done so I insured it for what I have in it and it was not that expensive. Have a good day! John |

I sent an email to the unfortunate owner about one of the bits and pieces he had left from the fire - this is his reply - "Sadly no insurance, thanks for your concern. A household policy does not usually cover vehicles or car parts. Let it be a warning to all with laid-up cars to get laid-up cover. Cheers, Dick S" What a shame - totally losing an almost completed restoration . |
